Biringan (Part 6) : Conclusion

What really is Biringan? Is it a city or kingdom existing in a parallel dimension with ours? Do these two dimensions interpenetrate at times, causing the meeting of inhabitants from ours with encantos? Does this explain the ethereal now-you-see-it, now-you don’t quality of Biringan and its denizens?

To this day, Biringan remains a mysterious part of Philippine folklore. In addition, everyday stories of encounters with Biringan’s residents continue to be told. If these had simply been figments of the imagination, these stories would have died down a long time ago, what with the advent of 100+ channels cable television and the Internet. Still, fresh stories continue to crop up.

Stories such as spirit possession by Biringan’s encantos over ten school children just because their school Principal unwittingly made a bonfire next to the large balete tree in their school yard. How was the poor teacher to know that the huge tree looming large near the old school building was the abode of a Biringanon? And that she had unknowingly injured the youngest child of the invisible occupants of the tree abode?

Even modern-day kids in the Philippines, well-versed on the Japanese animé sagas of the new century, still believe in the existence of the legendary kingdom of Biringan. This is an undeniable fact. Despite all the terror attacks, all the coup rumors, the hunger, the droughts, the floods, and everything, only one thing remains unshaken by it all … Biringan.

valkyrie, this is a really creepy-cool, well-written blog!
have you seen Maricel Soriano's T2? What did you think of it? I knew nothing about Biringan when I saw it but I think it would have been greatly improved by your blog's input.

T2 was directed by Chito Rono, who is from Samar, perhaps, the story was loosely based on the Biringan tale

the film T2 is based on Biringan City story..the director chito roño is from calbayog city. during his young days in calbayog, he is fond of telling and writing stories that are creepy..perhaps that's the reason why moat of the horror movies nowadays are directed by direk chito roño and maybe most of the concepts were taken from the biringan and some stories here in calbayog..

btw, im a native of calbayog and no one from our place doesn't know the story and place of biringan..

Hi! I'm from Northern Samar, this story in not new to me though it caught my attention because when I was a kid my grandfather used to tell a story about this people living in a hidden city. my lolo told me who was once a tambalan(an albularyo in waray dialect) that this city really exist. portals to this city is scattered in the island of samar not only in calbayog. I hope you find time to feature the story of "BUKID SAN ARAW"(mountain of the sun) similarly to Biringan this is a story of a hidden city believed to be situated in Northern Samar particularly in Palapag, Northern Samar. Folks believed that this place is inhabited by people with an Albino characteristics(that's why they call it)similarly the characteristics seen on the movie T2 of director Chito Rono.. thank you. Its my first time to browse a blog. the blog is great!

I am a native of Northern Samar but since my father is from the Western Part of Samar, most of our summer vacations were spent there. I have a friend from Western Samar whose sister was abducted by an entity from Biringan. This story was told by my cousin who lived in W.Samar. My friend's sister, lets call her ANA and her classmate, Marie rode a jeepney (public utilily vehicle) at around 7 in the evening. They were the only passengers in the said jeepney. The driver went strolling down the city to get some passengers when moments later, Ana noticed that the place was no longer familiar. They were surrounded by big houses, mansions in a well developed village. The driver said they are in Biringan City (Araw City to some) and they were told to get off the vehicle. They walked through houses for help and one of the owners accepted them to become house helpers. The house was so big with modern facilities and appliances but they were not allowed to roam the house, or go outside the huge gate. They have been there for days but they have not seen any other people residing that house but can hear voices of children playing and people talking and laughing. The only person they were able to talk to was the owner who invited them in. Days past by and Ana is worried that her family is already looking for her and that they must be worried sick about her whereabouts so she told Marie of their escape plan. When they finally had a chance to escape, she got out of the Gate just to be surprised to see that the village has turned to a forest surrounded by huge trees. Scared to death, she run as fast as she could like as if she was chased by monsters and demons. She never dared to look back while running. When she thought that she was far enough and safe, she looked back from where she came from only to find out that Marie was not with her anymore. She continued running and finally found her way home. When she got home she was told that she has been missing for more than a year already and they have almost given up searching for her. But she insisted that she was just away for days and then she told them their story. End of story.

Here's another brief story. My brother chose to have Life After Death as a topic of his College Thesis. He has several stories about Biringan city from the people he interviewed that was, but it's his story to tell not mine. Besides, there's a lot of them and they were too long. :)
I told him to go to Biringan City which is at the end of Palapag Northern samar to get a better story from the people residing near the place but he said there were some students who tried to go there but end up being possessed or abducted. Scared about what he said, I told him to change his Thesis but he said he his professor already approved his Topic for his Thesis and changing it would mean not graduating. I did not argue but I told him not to go to Palapag or near Biringan in any given circumstance. However, not going there did not stop weird things to happen during the course of his Thesis,he has been seeing dead people and there would be instances where he would just freeze as if paralyzed for brief periods or would wake up late nights crying and scared to death as if somebody is chasing after him. Weird enough, after his Thesis, thank God, he was back to normal again.

There, that's my share of story about the invisible city in Samar.
